> Arena’s July 16 announcement, reproduced by Tom’s Hardware, placed Kimi K3 first in Frontend Code at 1679 points above Fable 5. That is a task-specific preference result; AA’s separate July 17 broad index put K3 behind Fable and Sol.

**Kimi K3 took first place in Frontend Code Arena at 1679 points**, according to Arena’s July 16 announcement reproduced by Tom’s Hardware. The reported result put it ahead of Claude Fable 5 on that specific human-preference board. It is not an overall-model ranking.

The reproduced Arena announcement describes a **17-place improvement over Kimi K2.6**, from eighteenth to first, and first place in **six of seven frontend categories**. That supports a narrower conclusion than calling K3 the best model for every kind of coding: a frontend preference contest measures the outputs and users represented in that evaluation.

## A separate broad benchmark

In its **July 17** evaluation, **Artificial Analysis** scored K3 at **57 on its Intelligence Index**, describing it as third overall and comparable to Opus 4.8 and GPT-5.5, behind Fable 5 and GPT-5.6 Sol. AA also reported first place on **AutomationBench-AA**.

Those results answer different questions. A strong frontend preference result does not establish the same advantage in text chat, factuality, repair tasks or long-running production work.

## Access and limits

Moonshot’s launch described planned open weights; AA’s July 17 report explicitly said the weights had not yet been released. The model should therefore not be described as already available for self-hosting at the time of the ranking announcement.

The Arena figures here come through a named contemporaneous report reproducing its announcement, not a separately recovered July 16 leaderboard snapshot. The later AA evaluation is dated separately from this article’s original publication.

**Correction (October 14, 2026):** Removed unrecovered Text Overall, peer Elo and vote-count snapshots. Added precise sourcing for Arena’s announcement and dated the next-day AA result separately.
