> Seattle-based Avante, which makes AI software for companies' employee health and benefits teams, announced a $30 million Series A on October 27 led by Frist Cressey Ventures, bringing its total funding to $40 million. The company says it has more than 70 customers and that its agents can compare vendor contracts with actual claims and prepare renewals. Its customer, bookings and renewal figures are its own, relayed by GeekWire.

Avante argues that employee benefits, one of a company's largest costs, are still run on spreadsheets and PDFs, and that general-purpose chatbots are too error-prone to fix that; it has raised $30 million to build agents specifically for the job.

## The round

Frist Cressey Ventures led the $30 million Series A, with participation from Sorenson Capital, Hearst Ventures, Morgan Stanley Next Level Fund and existing investor Fuse, GeekWire reports. The round brings Avante's total funding to $40 million, following a $10 million seed round led by Fuse in 2024. GeekWire says the company plans to use the money to expand internationally and develop more AI agents, building on a beta release of its "Ava Agents" last week.

## What the agents do

According to GeekWire, Avante's agents compare vendor contracts against actual claims, review plan documents for errors and prepare for renewals, and employees can use the platform to ask about their own coverage. In his announcement post, CEO Rohan D'Souza wrote that a top broker had fed plan documents to a general-purpose AI and told Avante that 40% of the responses contained hallucinations. He wrote that Avante is building "opinionated agents designed specifically for critical benefits work" rather than generic AI assistants.

## Customers and competition

Avante says it has more than 70 customers, including Samsung Semiconductor, Real Chemistry, Zscaler and News Corp, and that bookings grew nearly fivefold over the past year, GeekWire reports. D'Souza wrote that the company has signed nearly five times as many customers as a year ago and that every customer that has come up for renewal has renewed. The company says its platform reaches more than 385,000 employees and family members. Avante was founded in 2023 by D'Souza, physician and epidemiologist Carly Eckert, and executive chairman Kabir Shahani, the co-CEO of Amperity, according to GeekWire, which notes that D'Souza and Eckert were executives at health care automation company Olive AI, which shut down in 2023. GeekWire names Workday, ADP, Deel and Rippling among the benefits and HR software providers Avante competes with.

## Limits

- The customer count, bookings growth, renewal record and 385,000 reach figure are Avante's own and are not independently verified.
- GeekWire describes bookings growing nearly fivefold; D'Souza's post describes nearly five times as many customers. These are different measures, and we report each as stated.
- The 40% hallucination figure is an anecdote from one unnamed broker, relayed by Avante, not a study.
- Neither source discloses a valuation or revenue.
