> Nvidia-backed neocloud Lambda is raising up to $4 billion at a $14.5 billion pre-money valuation in what would be its final private round before a planned 2027 IPO, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing people familiar and an LP letter. Blackstone and Coatue are leading. The letter puts Lambda's backlog at $50 billion in September, up from $15 billion in June. TechCrunch infers much of that jump from Anthropic's reported $35 billion commitment. Single-origin WSJ reporting; figures attributed accordingly — the round is not confirmed closed.

Neocloud valuations increasingly rest on a few frontier-lab contracts. Lambda's reported pre-IPO round makes that dependence explicit — if the WSJ's sourcing holds.

The **Wall Street Journal** reported on **October 6**, citing people familiar and a letter to limited partners, that Nvidia-backed GPU cloud provider **Lambda** is raising **up to $4 billion** at a **$14.5 billion pre-money** valuation in what would be its final private round before a planned IPO. **Blackstone** and **Coatue Management** are leading. Per the letter, Lambda aims to go public in **2027**, depending on execution and market conditions, and its backlog of unfilled orders grew to **$50 billion** in September from **$15 billion** in June.

Reuters and TechCrunch both relay the WSJ. Lambda did not immediately respond.

## Where the backlog jump allegedly comes from

**TechCrunch** says much of the backlog increase **appears** to come from the **$35 billion** commitment Anthropic signed with Lambda in late August — see our [prior on that block](https://timesof.ai/2026/09/anthropic-lambda-35b-hut8-nvidia). That Anthropic attribution is **TechCrunch's inference**, not a WSJ figure. TechCrunch also reports Lambda raised another **$1 billion of debt** last week, that its IPO was previously expected this year, and that British neocloud **Nscale** filed for an IPO last month.

## Why the structure matters

On the WSJ's figures, Lambda's backlog more than tripled in a quarter, and most of the jump — if TechCrunch is right — traces to a single customer. The round would give Lambda equity ahead of public-market scrutiny while debt lenders get choosier, and it adds to a 2026–27 listing queue of AI-infrastructure companies whose fortunes track lab spending.

## Limits

- **Single origin:** WSJ (paywalled, not inspected). Reuters and TechCrunch are relays, not independent confirmation.
- The raise is **"up to" $4B** at a **$14.5B pre-money** valuation — not a closed raise or a confirmed post-money.
- Anthropic/$35B share of the backlog jump = **TechCrunch inference**.
- No Lambda confirmation.
