> Butterfly Effect, the parent of AI agent maker Manus, said on Oct. 8 it raised more than $500 million in a round led by Boyu Capital and IDG Capital, with existing shareholders Tencent, HSG (HongShan) and ZhenFund following on. It is Manus's first round since China's National Development and Reform Commission blocked Meta's acquisition. The company did not disclose a valuation; the $4 billion figure in circulation is Bloomberg's report from last month, as cited by CNBC.

Beijing stopped Meta from buying Manus. Its new backers, and its old ones, have now put more than half a billion dollars behind it as an independent company. **Butterfly Effect**, Manus's parent, said on **October 8** that it had completed a round of more than **$500 million**, led by private equity firm **Boyu Capital** and venture investor **IDG Capital**, with follow-on investment from existing shareholders **Tencent**, **HSG** (HongShan, formerly Sequoia China) and **ZhenFund**, CNBC reported. TechNode, citing Yicai, carried the same company announcement.

It is Manus's first raise since Meta was forced to abandon its acquisition. CNBC recounts that Meta announced the deal in December and that China's **National Development and Reform Commission** later said it had decided to "prohibit foreign investment in the Manus project." CNBC describes it as Meta's "short-lived $2 billion acquisition."

## What is and isn't known

- **Valuation: not disclosed.** The company gave no post-money valuation, CNBC and TechNode report, and TechNode says it did not disclose how it will use the money. CNBC notes that **Bloomberg reported last month** the round would double Manus's valuation to **$4 billion**, which would make it China's most valuable AI agent maker. That figure is Bloomberg's earlier reporting, not a company disclosure.
- **Investors:** Boyu Capital and IDG Capital led; Tencent, HSG and ZhenFund followed on. Manus launched in China in early 2025 and moved its staff to Singapore after winning backing from US venture firm Benchmark, CNBC notes.
- **Product since the split:** Manus has launched **Manus 2.0**, built on a new in-house execution system called **Cascade**, and **Cue**, a standalone personal-agent app in which each agent has its own email address, phone number and mobile wallet, per CNBC. Earlier this month Manus said it had resumed independent operations.

## Why the round matters

The analysts CNBC quoted read it as containment of the Meta fallout. "The fundraising shows that the short-term fallout of the Meta case has been contained and investors are willing to back Manus as an independent company," said Dan Wang, China director at Eurasia Group. Han Lin of The Asia Group said the immediate task is "proving scale, profitability and regulatory alignment."

On that reading, the round shows a path for a globally ambitious Chinese agent company after a US buyer was blocked: domestic private equity and an existing strategic shareholder, rather than an exit to US big tech. It does not show what the business is worth. Manus also faces its former suitor as a competitor: Meta launched its own Muse agent in early September, CNBC notes, and Manus is among the agents Microsoft has listed as coming, without a date, to its [Windows agent containers](https://timesof.ai/2026/10/microsoft-nvidia-rtx-spark-surface-laptop-ultra-mxc-ga).

## Limits

- The company statement is in Chinese, via Yicai, and was not read directly. CNBC and TechNode carry the same announcement, so they are not independent confirmations of each other.
- The valuation is undisclosed. The $4 billion figure is Bloomberg's report from September, cited by CNBC; Bloomberg's original was not read.
- The ~$2 billion Meta deal value is CNBC's description.
