> Four months after Nvidia and Microsoft announced RTX Spark PCs for local AI agents, Microsoft opened pre-orders for the first one: the Surface Laptop Ultra from $2,599, available Oct. 16, with a $5,999 US-only Surface Dev Box in November. Nvidia named eight PC makers. Microsoft also made Microsoft Execution Containers, a policy-driven containment layer for AI agents on Windows, generally available. Specs are vendor figures, and there are no independent reviews yet.

The "AI PC for agents" pitch now has a price tag and a security model. When Nvidia and Microsoft [announced RTX Spark Windows PCs on May 31](https://timesof.ai/2026/05/nvidia-microsoft-rtx-spark-windows-personal-ai-pcs), it was a spec sheet and a bet that personal agents would run on the client. At a Windows event on **October 7**, Microsoft opened pre-orders for the first machine, and shipped the piece that matters more to corporate buyers: a generally available way to fence agents in on a work laptop.

## What you can order

| Device | Price (MSRP) | Availability |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Surface Laptop Ultra** | from **$2,599** | from **October 16** |
| **Surface RTX Spark Dev Box** | **$5,999** | US only, Microsoft.com; ships in **November** |

The Verge reports the $2,599 Surface Laptop Ultra configuration has an 8-core CPU, 24GB of memory and 512GB of storage. Nvidia lists **Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft, MSI and Gigabyte** as RTX Spark system makers, which makes this a product category rather than one Surface.

Nvidia's stated RTX Spark ceiling: a Blackwell RTX GPU with up to **6,144** cores, an up-to-**20-core** Grace CPU, **one petaflop** of FP4 AI performance and up to **128GB** of unified memory. Nvidia's post does not say whether the petaflop figure assumes sparsity, so it does not translate directly into data-centre GPU terms. Nvidia also described a **DGX Station for Windows** built on the GB300 desktop superchip, with **748GB** of coherent memory and up to **20 petaflops** of FP4 compute; it gave no price in the material we read.

## Execution Containers: the enterprise half

**Microsoft Execution Containers** (MXC) is now generally available. Microsoft describes it as policy-driven containment for AI agents, with four isolation backends: process, session, WSL container (WSLc) and MicroVM. MXC support in **Windows 365** Cloud PCs is also generally available. This is Microsoft's answer to how a coding or computer-use agent can run on a managed laptop without being handed the whole machine.

Microsoft lists **GitHub Copilot, OpenClaw, OpenAI Codex, Replit, LM Studio and Unsloth AI** as supporting MXC today. **Anthropic's Claude Code, Box, Egnyte, Heidi Health, Hermes Agent by Nous Research, Manus, Perplexity, Raycast and Simular** are listed as coming, without dates. Nvidia has integrated its **OpenShell** into MXC. Microsoft says Windows will "soon" use **Microsoft Entra** to distinguish agent activity from user activity and extend **Agent 365** controls to local agents; no date was given. The Verge separately reported that Meta's **Muse** agent is getting a native Windows app, also without timing.

The hardware gets the headlines, but MXC may matter more for adoption. If the "coming" names ship, containment becomes the default Windows path for third-party agents, and IT departments get one policy surface instead of one per vendor. For now the list is Microsoft's, and more than half of it (nine of 15 names) is future tense. Hermes Agent's maker, [Nous Research](https://timesof.ai/2026/10/nous-research-90m-1-5b-hermes-enterprise), confirmed new funding the same day.

## Limits

- All specs and performance figures are vendor claims; no independent reviews were available before the October 16 ship date.
- The one-petaflop FP4 figure does not state whether sparsity is assumed.
- Agent support lists are Microsoft's; "coming" entries, Entra agent identity and Agent 365 for local agents have no dates.
