> The Information reports that Replit, the AI coding platform, shifted most of its AI model spending from Anthropic to OpenAI in recent months after OpenAI offered a discount of more than 30% on its model prices. RuntimeWire, relaying the report, says the contract is worth more than $100 million a year. None of the three companies has confirmed the terms; Replit's CEO has said cost, performance and partnership drove the switch.

If The Information's numbers are right, a model-price discount was enough to move one of Anthropic's biggest customers to OpenAI. The Information reported on **Saturday, October 24** that Replit, in recent months, moved the majority of its AI spending to OpenAI after OpenAI offered a discount of more than 30% on its model prices as part of a contract.

## What has been reported

RuntimeWire, which relayed The Information's report, says the contract is worth more than $100 million a year and that The Information cited a person familiar with the situation. Replit, OpenAI and Anthropic have not publicly confirmed the financial terms, RuntimeWire says.

## What Replit has said

Replit CEO Amjad Masad said onstage at TechCrunch Disrupt that the company was no longer working with Anthropic and that "it was a decision based on both cost, partnership, and performance," TechCrunch reported on October 17. He later told TechCrunch that "Replit remains model agnostic" and that OpenAI is now its "preferred partner for powering Replit Agent, based on performance, economics, and the strength of our partnership." TechCrunch reported that customers can still choose Anthropic's models but OpenAI's is now the default.

Masad said Replit had until recently been one of Anthropic's top five customers, according to TechCrunch. TechCrunch also reported that a person familiar with the Anthropic–Replit partnership disputed Masad's onstage account and said the partnership was still in place.
