# Simons Foundation, Anthropic and OpenAI Commit $15 Million in Funding and Resources for Mathematicians in the AI Era

The foundation, not the labs, will decide who gets the money, it says. The **Simons Foundation** announced on **Thursday, October 15** that it, **Anthropic** and **OpenAI** will commit **$15 million in combined funding and resources**. The foundation will manage and award the funding, including through an open call for proposals, for workshops and initiatives that help researchers evaluate recent AI-assisted results, learn new tools and "shape collective standards for AI use."

Anthropic and OpenAI will also provide AI tools and computing resources to foundation-supported researchers, extending beyond mathematics to basic science, the foundation says. OpenAI said on X that it is contributing $5 million; Anthropic's share was not disclosed.

"The community should be driving discussions of how these tools are evaluated, adopted and used, not any single company or institution," said foundation president **David Spergel**.
