Anthropic Merges Claude Chat and Cowork for Enterprise; Existing Organisations Switch On by Default From Nov. 16
Anthropic has made its unified Claude experience, which folds chat and the Cowork agent into one conversation, generally available on Claude Enterprise. When a task needs code or files, Claude continues in a cloud sandbox Anthropic manages. Anthropic's help centre says the feature is off by default for existing Enterprise organisations and turns on by default on November 16 unless an admin keeps it disabled.
For Enterprise admins, the date that matters is November 16: that is when Anthropic's merged chat-and-agent Claude turns on by default in existing organisations that have not chosen otherwise. Anthropic announced general availability on Friday, October 23; PYMNTS reported it on October 25.
What changes for users
Anthropic says chat and Cowork "are now one Claude on web, desktop, and mobile," so users no longer pick between them before starting. Conversations begin as a chat, and when a task needs to run code or work with files, Claude continues in the cloud and returns the finished document, analysis or deck, Anthropic says. Pro and Max plans got the same experience in September, according to Anthropic.
Anthropic says each cloud session runs in its own isolated virtual machine, with network egress off by default for Enterprise and connector credentials kept outside the sandbox. Its help centre says an idle machine is stopped and saved as an encrypted snapshot, and the sandbox expires 30 days after it was created. Anthropic says it does not use the data for model training by default.
What admins control
Anthropic says admins control access by role and can manage usage with a new "Efficient mode," which keeps the experience on Sonnet and Haiku models, alongside per-role model entitlements and spend limits. Before November 16, owners see a notice that the feature "will be automatically enabled" and can choose "Enable now" or "Keep disabled," the help centre says; an organisation that has already set the switch keeps its choice. Organisations using zero data retention, the HIPAA-ready configuration or customer-managed encryption keys stay on their current setup, Anthropic says.
