IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Oct. 8 that India should be able to publish a consultation paper on AI regulation in about a month, focused on safety, a human-first approach, skilling, inclusion and societal harms such as deepfakes, and that industry would carry the bulk of the responsibility. It is a promise of a paper to consult on, not draft rules. MeitY Secretary S Krishnan, speaking at the same World Bank report event, said the time to revisit India's rely-on-existing-laws approach 'maybe' has come. Google said Gemini in Chrome is now available to all Android users in India, and its agentic auto browse feature is open on desktop and Android for AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers there. Availability starts in US/UK English; auto browse is limited to English-set devices. Google calls the features secure-by-design. Anthropic India managing director Irina Ghose told the Times of India that Claude requests sent through Amazon Bedrock’s India endpoint are now processed on servers in India, the data-residency condition regulated banks and government bodies asked for.
