Apple Adds an Assistant Built on Apple and OpenAI Models to Pages, Keynote and Numbers, and Opens the Apps to Outside AI Agents Through MCP

Apple said on October 27 that Apple Creator Studio subscribers will get an intelligent assistant in beta in Keynote, Pages and Numbers, "built on Apple models and OpenAI," plus Model Context Protocol (MCP) support that lets external AI agents read, edit and automate documents on macOS 27. Logic Pro for Mac gets its own beta assistant running on Apple-built and unnamed third-party models. The updates arrive in November, and both assistants are U.S. English only.

Apple is putting OpenAI's name on an assistant inside its own document apps and letting other companies' AI agents operate those apps directly. Both arrive as betas, in U.S. English only, for subscribers to Apple Creator Studio, Apple's paid bundle of creative apps.

An assistant "built on Apple models and OpenAI"#

Apple said on October 27 that Keynote, Pages and Numbers will get an intelligent assistant, in beta, "built on Apple models and OpenAI." Apple says the assistant understands the context of the open document. In Keynote it helps design, animate and refine slides; in Pages it drafts and restructures text; and in Numbers it calculates, builds charts and organizes data.

The assistant requires an Apple Intelligence-capable device running iOS 27, iPadOS 27 or macOS 27 or later, according to Apple. The Verge also reports that the assistant is built on AI models from Apple and OpenAI.

The partnership sits alongside a legal fight: Apple is separately suing OpenAI over alleged theft of hardware trade secrets, a case OpenAI is contesting.

Outside agents get a way in#

Apple says new MCP support "enables external AI agents and tools to read content, perform edits, and execute automated actions directly in Keynote, Pages, and Numbers." MCP support requires macOS 27 or later. The Verge reports that this lets third-party AI agents plug into the apps on the Mac.

Logic Pro's assistant uses unnamed third-party models#

Logic Pro for Mac gets its own intelligent assistant, in beta, which Apple says is "powered by a combination of Apple-built and third-party models." Apple does not name the third-party models. It says the assistant can start a new song, set up a vocal track from a single prompt or refine an active project, and that it requires macOS 27 Golden Gate or later on an Apple Intelligence-capable Mac.

Price and timing#

Apple says the Apple Creator Studio updates will be available on the App Store in November as a free update for existing subscribers. New subscribers pay $12.99 a month or $129 a year in the U.S. Apple says the free versions of Keynote, Pages and Numbers remain available.

Limits#

  • Apple names OpenAI for the Keynote, Pages and Numbers assistant but does not say which OpenAI model it uses, how requests are routed between Apple and OpenAI models, or what data is shared.
  • The third-party models behind the Logic Pro assistant are not named in Apple's release.
  • We checked Apple's release against The Verge's report; we have not used the features, which ship in November.
