On July 13, 2026, TechCrunch reported that Anthropic began showing Indian rupee–denominated Claude subscription plans for some users in India—Claude Pro at ₹2,000/month (annual), Max from ₹11,999, Team from ₹2,399 per seat—without UPI yet, as India accounts for about 5.8% of global Claude usage.

TLDR

Anthropic by July 13, 2026 had begun localizing Claude subscription pricing in India, showing INR plans to some users on web and mobile—Claude Pro at ₹2,000/month when billed annually ($21; U.S. comparison ~$17), Claude Max from ₹11,999 ($125 vs $100 U.S.), and Team from ₹2,399 per seat ($25 vs ~$20 U.S.), taxes included. UPI was not enabled yet; card and app-store billing still applied. India is Anthropic’s second-largest market after the U.S. at roughly 5.8% of global Claude usage (Anthropic India economic brief). Anthropic did not comment to TechCrunch on the rollout.

What changed

From TechCrunch’s July 13 report (screenshots of Claude India pricing tiers) and Anthropic’s published India usage research:

Plan (India web) Listed price Notes
Claude Pro ₹2,000/mo annual Above U.S. dollar list after FX/tax
Claude Max from ₹11,999/mo Higher tiers similarly localized
Team from ₹2,399/seat/mo Taxes included on India listings
Payments Card / Apple / Google billing No UPI at report time (unlike OpenAI’s earlier INR + UPI push)

Context: Bengaluru office (opened 2026 after Oct 2025 plans), India lead Irina Ghose, and enterprise ties with Infosys and TCS. The June Fable 5 / Mythos non-U.S. access shock still hangs over Indian developers even after Fable’s July 1 global restore.

Why this story matters

Usage without local currency is a conversion tax. Rupee list prices for Anthropic’s #2 market are GTM infrastructure—especially after a summer of access volatility and vs OpenAI’s earlier INR + UPI packaging. For Indian teams, the open question is not only the sticker but whether UPI, enterprise invoicing, and frontier-model access catch up before price localization alone wins paid seats.
