Cohere Ships North 2: Token Caps, Cross-Session Memory and a Rebuilt Agent Harness
Trade press briefed by Cohere report that North 2, launched Oct. 5, adds a redesigned orchestration harness with human sign-off steps, cross-session agent memory, shared libraries and reusable skills, plus North Admin controls that track token use per user and agent and set org-wide caps. The platform is model-agnostic and runs in cloud, on-prem or fully air-gapped. Cohere published no benchmarks and no list pricing. Coverage notes the launch comes less than three weeks after Cohere agreed to merge with Aleph Alpha — a signed agreement, not a closed deal, as reported.

Enterprises that will not turn agents on until spend and data residency are controllable are exactly who Cohere is selling to with North 2 — a positioning move, not a benchmark dump.
SiliconANGLE and VentureBeat (both Oct. 5), briefed by Cohere, report that North 2 is the first major upgrade to Cohere’s enterprise agent platform since general availability in August 2025. Cohere’s own announcement page was not inspected for this piece. Product detail below is trade-press reporting of a company briefing.
What the upgrade adds
Per that coverage, North 2 includes:
- A redesigned orchestration harness that runs multistep work with human sign-off on designated steps
- Cross-session memory, shared libraries, reusable skills, and shareable agents built from prompts
- Chat-side generation of slides, dashboards and lightweight apps; connectors for Slack, GitHub, SharePoint and OneDrive (PitchBook, S&P Global and FactSet planned)
- North Admin tracking token use down to the user and agent, with consumption tiers, rate limits, org-wide caps and alerts
- Deployment in cloud, on-prem or fully air-gapped; model-agnostic (customer-brought models allowed)
Named customers in the briefings include Bell Cyber, LG CNS and Radical Ventures. Cohere gave no benchmarks and does not publish list pricing; VentureBeat quotes pricing as deployment-scale and complexity dependent.
Claims vs checks
Microsoft Copilot Studio, ChatGPT Enterprise and Claude Enterprise already offer admin spend limits inside their own platforms. Cohere’s pitch is the sovereign, model-agnostic version — spend control plus residency — which fits the Aleph Alpha thread. SiliconANGLE says North 2 arrives less than three weeks after Cohere signed a merger agreement with Aleph Alpha (combined company keeps the Cohere name). That is a signed agreement as reported, not a closed merger verified here. For Aleph Alpha’s open-weight product line, see the desk’s Kolibri brief.
Limits
- No Cohere primary page inspected; SiliconANGLE and VentureBeat are trade press briefed by the company.
- No benchmarks and no published list pricing — positioning, not capability proof.
- Merger with Aleph Alpha: agreement signed per SiliconANGLE — close and terms are not verified here.
- Competitor spend-control comparisons are VentureBeat’s market context, not a feature audit.
