OpenAI Compute Lead Sachin Katti to Leave; Uday Ruddarraju to Run the Compute Organization
Sachin Katti said on Oct. 14 he is leaving OpenAI's infrastructure and compute role to build something new and will advise the company after Nov. 15. CTO of compute Uday Ruddarraju, formerly xAI's head of infrastructure engineering, will lead the overall compute organization, a spokesperson told CNBC.

OpenAI's compute program changes hands again, DatacenterDynamics reports, months after Katti himself took over Stargate. Sachin Katti, OpenAI's infrastructure and compute lead, said on Wednesday, October 14 that he "decided to move on to build something new," CNBC reported, citing his LinkedIn post. He will advise OpenAI after his last day on November 15.
Uday Ruddarraju, OpenAI's CTO of compute, will replace Katti and lead the company's overall compute organization, a spokesperson told CNBC. Ruddarraju joined OpenAI in July 2025 and previously led infrastructure engineering at xAI, according to CNBC. DCD, which says Bloomberg reported the promotion first, says Katti joined from Intel in November 2025 and took over the Stargate data center effort in March.
The outlets give different compute targets: CNBC says OpenAI is targeting roughly $600 billion in total compute spend by 2030, while DCD says the company projects about $750 billion through 2030, up from an earlier estimate of roughly $600 billion.

- The departure is described as Katti's choice; no reason beyond his post was given. Bloomberg's first report was not opened.
