ServiceNow Workflows Now Run Inside ChatGPT; the Joint OpenAI Security Product and Codex Integration Wait Until 2027

OpenAI and ServiceNow expanded their partnership on October 28. A ServiceNow plugin in OpenAI's marketplace, available now, runs ServiceNow workflows from ChatGPT under existing permissions. A joint security product is due in early access in January 2027 and generally in the second quarter, and Codex integration with ServiceNow's AI Workflow Factory is planned for 2027. No financial terms were disclosed.

Most of what OpenAI and ServiceNow announced on October 28 is scheduled for 2027; one piece ships now. A ServiceNow plugin in OpenAI's marketplace lets ChatGPT users carry out ServiceNow workflows from inside ChatGPT, with ServiceNow's Action Fabric applying the customer's existing business rules and permissions, according to ServiceNow's announcement as summarised by Investing.com.

What is dated, and when#

ServiceNow says enhanced plugin features are due by the end of 2026. A joint security product, combining OpenAI's cybersecurity capabilities with ServiceNow's enterprise data to find and close attack paths, is planned for early access in January 2027 and general availability in the second quarter. Codex is to be integrated into ServiceNow's AI Workflow Factory in 2027, and a voice experience for its Control Tower built on OpenAI voice models is slated for preview in the first quarter.

The companies are also becoming each other's customers: ServiceNow plans to give all employees ChatGPT Work and Codex, and OpenAI plans to deploy ServiceNow across its operations, the release says. OpenAI joins ServiceNow's Control Tower Alliance as a founding member.

The model question#

OpenAI says its models power ServiceNow's Build Agent and Autonomous Engineer. In January, ServiceNow and Anthropic announced that Claude would be the default model for Build Agent. Neither company's October 28 materials explain how models are now assigned inside Build Agent.

"AI becomes more useful when people can put it to work in the systems their businesses depend on," OpenAI president Greg Brockman said in the release.

Limits#

  • Everything after the plugin is a plan with target dates, not a shipped product.
  • No financial terms were disclosed.
