Bengaluru's Sarvam AI is in talks to raise $250–300 million at about a $3 billion valuation, The Economic Times reported on Tuesday, October 13, citing people aware of the discussions. ET says that would double the valuation from four months ago and could make Sarvam India's highest-valued AI startup.

What ET reported

  • The prior round: in June, Sarvam secured more than $300 million at a $1.5 billion valuation, ET says. HCLTech led that round, and ET's EnterpriseAI site says it committed $150 million.
  • Stage: "These discussions are very early but the company is engaging with large domestic enterprises and institutions," one person told ET. "The aim is to keep significant shareholding with Indian entities." The final amount and valuation could change, the person said.
  • The business: Sarvam builds Indian-language AI models and applications for government agencies and businesses, including banks and insurers. ET names customers including Life Insurance Corp. of India, SBI Life, IDFC First Bank, Tata Capital and Cred.

ET also reports that Maharashtra has approved deployment of Sarvam's Indus AI workspace across departments, and that Sarvam outlined plans in July for a trillion-parameter model and a San Francisco office.

Limits

  • This is a single-origin report: both versions come from The Economic Times, citing unnamed people, and includes no confirmation from Sarvam.
  • Talks are described as very early; no new investor is named.
