Meta Buys Conductor, the App for Running Coding Agents in Parallel, and Gives Its Cloud Users Until November 20
Meta has acquired Conductor, a startup whose Mac app lets developers run teams of coding agents in separate workspaces, Axios reported on November 4; Meta confirmed the deal to TechCrunch but disclosed no terms. Conductor stopped new sign-ups the same day, will make its cloud read-only on November 13 and begin deleting cloud data on November 20. The local app keeps getting models and critical fixes until early 2027.

Meta is buying the interface for managing coding agents rather than another agent. It has acquired Conductor, a startup whose app lets developers run several coding agents at once in separate workspaces, Axios reported on November 4. Meta confirmed the deal to TechCrunch but declined to give details, and terms were not disclosed. It was the second developer-tools purchase by a major AI lab that day, after OpenAI's deal for Pierre Computer.
What happens to Conductor users#
Conductor's own announcement sets a short clock for its cloud product:
- November 4: no new sign-ups or downloads; existing pro users keep pro features for free.
- November 13: Conductor Cloud goes read-only; active subscribers get a refund.
- November 20: Conductor Cloud shuts down and the company begins deleting cloud user data.
The local app will keep receiving new models and critical bug fixes until early 2027, when it starts winding down, the company said. Conductor says it has never sold or trained on user data and offers a "Transfer to local" option and a full data export.
What Meta gets#
Conductor launched in July 2025, and TechCrunch says the company was founded in 2024. Its agents are not its own: they come from labs including Anthropic and OpenAI, according to TechCrunch. Founder and CEO Charlie Holtz wrote that the team has "big, crazy plans for the next interface" and expects "something new" early next year. On X, he said he looked forward to working with Meta chief AI officer Alexandr Wang and Nat Friedman of Meta Superintelligence Labs, TechCrunch reported. Meta already has its own terminal coding agent, Muse Code, launched in August.
Limits#
- No price, headcount or closing details have been disclosed; Meta would not comment beyond confirming the deal.
- We do not know whether Conductor's next product will be a Meta product, or whether it will still support Anthropic and OpenAI models.
- The early-2027 wind-down date for the local app is the company's plan and could change.
