Google Brings Gemini in Chrome Auto Browse to Paid Users in India — English Only
Google said Gemini in Chrome is now available to all Android users in India, and its agentic auto browse feature is open on desktop and Android for AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers there. Availability starts in US/UK English; auto browse is limited to English-set devices. Google calls the features secure-by-design. This is a geographic rollout of an existing capability, not a new agent framework.

Google is expanding a browser agent it already ships — not inventing a new one.
On October 7, Google said Gemini in Chrome, its browsing assistant (on desktop in India earlier this year), is now available to all Android users in India. The auto browse feature, which completes multi-step tasks in the browser, is available on desktop and Android for Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in India. Google’s examples: book parking for an event, fill out a long form, order the week’s groceries. The Verge notes auto browse launched earlier this year for shopping, form-filling and hotel-price research.
Google says the features are “secure-by-design,” that its models are trained to detect known threats such as prompt injection, and that auto browse asks for confirmation before some sensitive tasks. Those are Google’s claims. Gemini in Chrome on Android starts in US and UK English; auto browse is limited to devices set to English, with more languages planned.
Why the geography matters
This is a rollout, not a capability jump. It does put a working browser agent in front of paying users in India the day after Meta and Sierra’s Personal Agent Protocol made agent access to merchant sites the industry’s live negotiation. Google’s route is different in kind: the agent acts inside the user’s own Chrome session, rather than asking sites to admit a third-party agent via a handshake. That contrast is our framing — nothing Google published mentions PAP, and nothing here claims Google rejected it. PAP’s announced partners are largely US commerce and payments companies; a session-local Chrome agent does not need their admission.
Limits
- Paid tiers only for auto browse (AI Pro / AI Ultra).
- English-only for now on Android and auto browse.
- Single origin (Google India blog) plus a Verge restatement; no usage figures or partner merchants.
- “Secure-by-design” and prompt-injection detection = Google’s framing, not an independent audit.
