Commerce Lifts Fable/Mythos Controls: First Full Kill-and-Restore Cycle Ends
After ~18–19 days offline, Commerce lifted Fable 5 and Mythos 5 export controls June 30; Fable returns globally July 1 with temporary 50% included usage through July 7. First complete commercial frontier kill-and-restore case study every lab will plan around.
The Fable/Mythos episode is the first full cycle of a model-level export shock: sudden kill, congressional oversight, intelligence-community collateral damage, trusted-partner thaw, then full lift. Anthropic said on June 30, 2026 that the U.S. Department of Commerce had lifted export controls on Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, ending an ~18–19 day global outage that began June 12. Fable 5 would return July 1 worldwide on Claude surfaces, with paid-plan included usage through July 7 before credits; AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Foundry re-enablement to follow ASAP. Mythos 5 trusted-partner access (approved June 26) continued, with work to expand Project Glasswing.
What Anthropic announced
From Anthropic’s primary “Redeploying Claude Fable 5” post (June 30; access-restored update July 1):
- Status as of June 30: Export controls on Fable 5 and Mythos 5 lifted.
- Fable 5 availability: Starting Wednesday, July 1, for users globally on Claude Platform, Claude.ai, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork.
- Plan economics: On Pro, Max, Team, and select Enterprise plans, Fable 5 included for up to 50% of weekly usage limits through July 7, then via usage credits.
- Cloud hosts: Re-enable on AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Foundry “as quickly as possible.”
- Mythos 5: Access already restored for a set of U.S. organizations after June 26 government approval; ongoing coordination to expand domestic and international Glasswing partners.

Limits
- “50% of weekly usage limits through July 7” is temporary included entitlement—absolute tokens depend on plan tables.
- Cloud re-enablement on AWS/GCP/Foundry was “as quickly as possible,” not simultaneous day-one everywhere.
- Mythos 5 remained on the trusted U.S. organization path, not full global consumer availability.
