Anthropic Brings Claude Cowork to Mobile and Web
On July 7, 2026, Anthropic announced Claude Cowork on web and mobile—ending the desktop-only phase of its agentic knowledge-work product. Beta access starts with Max plan users, with broader paid plans to follow; sessions can continue in the cloud when a laptop is closed and prompt users on phone when a decision is needed.
TLDR
Anthropic on July 7, 2026 said Claude Cowork is expanding from the desktop app to web and mobile (iOS/Android). Rollout is a beta, starting with Max subscribers and expected to reach other paid plans over following weeks. Cowork can run remote/cloud sessions so work continues when no device is online, sync files across surfaces, and notify on phone when the agent needs a human decision—turning long-running knowledge-work agents into something you can start at a desk and finish on the train.
What shipped
Grounded in Anthropic’s Cowork web/mobile blog post and same-day press (The Verge, 9to5Mac, MacRumors, PYMNTS):
- Surfaces: Desktop + web + mobile apps as one Cowork home for chats, projects, artifacts, and synced files.
- Access: Beta first for Max; other plans “in the coming weeks.”
- Session model: Hand Claude a task at the desk; background cloud execution when the laptop closes; mobile for monitoring and approvals.
- Product lineage: Cowork began as Anthropic Labs research preview (January 2026), GA for paid desktop users in April 2026, and is Anthropic’s “Claude Code for the rest of work” pitch—folders, connectors, multi-step office tasks.
Later week coverage framed the mobile/web push next to OpenAI’s July 9 ChatGPT Work launch as a category race for agentic knowledge work, not just chat. The primary ship date for Cowork’s mobile/web availability remains July 7.
Why this story matters
Agentic products fail in the real world when they tie users to a single machine. Mobile + web Cowork is Anthropic admitting that multi-hour agents only stick if oversight and kickoff are portable. Paired with OpenAI’s same-week Work/desktop merge, July’s story is less “which model is smartest” and more who owns the cross-device agent shell for everyday work.
