OpenAI to Unbundle Cursor Once SpaceX Deal Closes — Nov 12 Cutoff
OpenAI will stop serving Cursor after SpaceX’s acquisition of Anysphere closes, with a proposed November 12 cutoff.

Frontier labs are unbundling each other’s IDEs. The traffic loss may be survivable; a precedent that acquiring a coding client means losing OpenAI weights is not.
OpenAI published “Our decision on Cursor following its acquisition by SpaceX.” Once SpaceX closes the Anysphere / Cursor deal — reported at ~$60 billion — OpenAI will stop providing models and API access to Cursor. Proposed cutoff: November 12, 2026.

This is distribution politics, not a new model. Grok is already in GitHub Copilot (Aug 14) and Cursor is xAI’s coding surface.
Limits#

- Deal close itself is not confirmed in OpenAI’s post.
- Whether Microsoft keeps Grok in Copilot while OpenAI walks out of Cursor is a separate negotiation.
