Fudan Spinout Mosi Intelligence Raises Over 1 Billion Yuan for Real-Time Multimodal AI
Mosi Intelligence, incubated in late 2024 from Fudan University's OpenMOSS team under Prof. Qiu Xipeng, said on Oct. 12 it closed a Pre-A round of more than 1 billion yuan led by Huakong Fund, with several Shanghai state-linked funds joining. The money goes to real-time multimodal research and global commercialization, including a coming MOSS Live system. No valuation, customers or revenue were disclosed.

State-linked Shanghai funds are among the backers of a bet that the next AI interface is real-time voice and vision. Mosi Intelligence, the Shanghai startup spun out of Fudan University's OpenMOSS team, said on October 12 it has closed a Pre-A round of more than 1 billion yuan, led by Huakong Fund, according to TMTPost and BigGo Finance. It is the company's second round in about six months.
Who invested
TMTPost lists CDB Science & Technology Innovation, Shanghai Science & Technology Innovation Fund, Xinwei Capital, Xuhui Capital, Zhuiguang Hard Tech Venture Capital and Lingang Ceyuan Fund among the participants. Existing shareholders including Yuanhe (Oriza) Holdings, Shanghai Science & Technology Innovation Group and Xinglian Capital invested again. BigGo notes that several of the new investors have Shanghai state-capital backgrounds.
The company disclosed no valuation, stake or board arrangements, BigGo says. BigGo converts the round to about $149.5 million; that is its conversion of the 1 billion yuan floor, not a disclosed dollar amount.
What the money is for
The proceeds go to research on what the company calls "full-modal real-time interactive intelligence" and to global commercialization, TMTPost reports. Mosi says it will soon launch MOSS Live, a real-time interaction system. BigGo describes it as pairing a front-end model that continuously sees, listens and speaks with a back-end agent model that handles reasoning and task execution.
Founder and chief scientist Qiu Xipeng, a Fudan professor, led the 2023 release of MOSS, an early Chinese open-source ChatGPT-style model, according to BigGo. Founded in November 2024, Mosi released more than 20 speech, vision and multimodal models in the first half of 2026, BigGo says, and in April closed an angel round of several hundred million yuan led by Shanghai Future Industry Fund and IDG Capital.
What is not yet shown
Mosi named no customers and disclosed no revenue, orders or paying-user figures, BigGo notes. BigGo says the gap between open-source activity and commercial conversion is yet to be proven; the company's API platform has been in public beta since July, it reports.
