Anthropic Ships Claude Personal Finance Beta With Read-Only Plaid Links for US Paid Plans
Anthropic is rolling out Personal Finance in Claude this week as a US beta for Pro, Max and Ultra: users connect bank and card accounts through Plaid and ask spending questions in natural language. Access is read-only — Claude cannot move, manage or invest money — and hub chats are not used for model training. TechCrunch notes ChatGPT launched a similar finance experience in May.

Anthropic is putting Claude into the same consumer-finance lane OpenAI opened months ago, and it is leading with what the product will not do. Personal Finance starts rolling out in beta this week to Pro, Max and Ultra plans in the United States, Anthropic said. Users connect bank and card accounts through Plaid and ask about balances and spending in everyday language. Access is read-only: Personal Finance cannot move, manage or invest money, and Anthropic says it offers no ads, sponsored recommendations, or its own credit, loan or savings products.
What Claude can see#
For connected accounts only, Claude sees the bank name, account name and type, last four digits, balances, credit limits, and up to two years of transactions. Users sign in to their bank through Plaid; Anthropic says Claude does not ask for or see bank passwords. Chats in the Personal Finance hub are not used to train Anthropic's models; privacy settings still apply outside the hub, and accounts can be unlinked at any time. Anthropic also warns that Claude can make mistakes and that important figures should be checked with the bank.
The distribution fight#
TechCrunch frames the launch as catch-up to ChatGPT's Personal Finance experience, which OpenAI previewed for US Pro users in May with the same Plaid-shaped pattern of grounded spending questions. Anthropic's pitch is a straight answer without product cross-sell. What neither lab has published is how many users connect accounts, how often the answers are wrong, or how banks view the read-only feed at scale.
Limits#
- Availability is a US paid-plan beta this week; no EU, UK or free-tier timeline is stated.
- "Read-only" and the training carve-out are Anthropic's claims; we have not audited the Plaid scopes.
- Example dollar totals in Anthropic's blog are illustrations, not a user's real statement.
